The Snow Fairy Came Last Night

Southern snow, South Carolina, winter snow

The Snow Fairy came to visit last night and left a beautiful coat of snow over everything.

I love the silence of the falling snow and stayed up until early this morning watching it.

It has been three or four years since we have seen snow.

Pardon us while we post photo after photo.

Unfortunately the snow fairy also brought her evil twin Ice Fairy.

We are stuck here.

We will just enjoy.

See y'all!

This is how I feel!

Book Love

vintage book sets

I love books.

Fresh new books with spines that crackle when opened.

Being the first person to flip the pages.

Used books with stained covers and dog-eared pages.

Wondering how many people enjoyed reading it late into the night.

Old books with that musty. comforting smell.

Tattered covers and brittle pages.

Revealing what was once most important.

Knowledge.

Passed from person to person.

In the form of real books.

Saved on shelves.

Recording centuries of thoughts on miles of pages.

Some gathered together in boxed sets.

Showing their age.

Some now forgotten in this age of electronic devices.

I love books.

Stacks of them.

In every room.

In every genre.

Books.

Not just decorating tools, but tools to help on a sleepless, restless night.

Tools to feed the mind.

Tools to refresh a life.

Tools to amuse and entertain.

Books - I'll take mine in paper, please.

I love books.

See y'all!

The SPCA Thrift Shop - On My Way Anywhere!

vintage finds
On my way to Kroger?

On my way to the dollar store?

On my way to the antique mall?

On my way anywhere?

Right there on the right as I drive down Whiskey Road is the SPCA Thrift Store.

Sometimes I stop when I am going and sometimes I stop when I am coming back home.

And sometimes I stop both going and coming!

It is an addiction.

Double basket - one side for your peanuts, the other side for the shells.

Nice, heavy weight vases.

Saw those vintage-looking frogs glued to the bottom with floral goop.

Soaked in rubbing alcohol.

Got the prizes.

Made in China!?!

<sigh>

Another India cotton tablecloth.

The green matches the navy floral one from last week.

A pair of shot glasses with an atomic design in gold and turquoise.

Yellow birds on a small juice glass or shot glass.

"Tweet, tweet"

Printed right on the glass.

A beautiful old, crazed platter for beautiful old, crazed me.

Well, the platter is much more beautiful than I ever pretended to be.

She is a big one.

So sweet!

A trio of loaf pans.

I am hoping there is a spring somewhere in our future when I will need these for planters.

I never pass on a good wooden box at a cheap price.

This was once a cigar box.

It will be altered.

In some way.

When inspiration hits.

I must confess.

I went to the SPCA Thrift Store again today.

Yes, I bought a few things.

If it does not get warm enough for me to stay outside, I might manage to buy something every single day.

Maybe I can stack everything up like a fort and sit in front of the fireplace.

Maybe I need a restraining device to keep me from turning right.

More junk?

Next post.

See y'all!

Yanked From Her Drawers

vintage finds, thrift finds, joy
Yes, I said these items were yanked right out of her drawers.

The "her" in this case being The Empress - that massive wardrobe I carried around in the back of the Blazer for two weeks.

These were the things Leia and I had crammed in on  A Chilly Low Country Crawl..

I could not reach them until freeing The Empress from her imprisonment.

A wonderful vintage blue suitcase.  It is already working hard holding my shipping supplies.

It looks great in the slash room.

Now here is a mix - a Santa, an Aigner ladybug purse, and a Palmetto small tote.

The palmetto and crescent moon is our state flag.

It appears everywhere.

Even in the clearance Goodwill store.

Leia with her super eagle eyes found this Snowbaby ornament with the tags - slight chip on a wing.

I did not need another Snowbaby.

I have quite the collection which has not seen the light of day in a couple of years.

Leia said I had to get it because he was holding "JOY".

Well, it is my word of the year.

A toile shot glass marked France.

I have always wondered why "France" the word is in English.

Someone explained it was meant to be sold in English-speaking countries.

Oh, that makes sense.

A lovely piece of green glass with a silver rim and handle.

Shot glass?

Bud vase?

Toothpick holder?

Who cares - it is pretty and in great condition.

A bunch of fake magnolia leaves and a bag of moss.

I have four magnolia trees in my yard.

Do not know why I need fake leaves.

But I do.

Just in case.

A green basket with a "Books" label so I bought cookbooks for it.

I love to browse through these fundraiser recipes.

Some are quite amusing.

I do love the titles.

We give and receive some wonderful vintage stuff for Christmas.

I realized I did not share what Leia gave me.

In my big bag of Lowe's goodies, there was this old orange wrench.

Chucks asked if it was going in my toolbox or hanging on the wall.

Is he for real!?!

It will be hung on the wall!

Just for Danni at  Silo Hill Farm who thinks my obsession with creepy dolls is just plain weird.

It seems there is a family gene for that.

Leia found these dolls at the thrift shop and gave them to me.

I love their handmade clothes.

Of course, I may take the dolls apart and alter them.

Maybe make one for Danni's new house!

The four of them look like a singing sisters group on a 1960's variety show.

Please do not say The Lennon Sisters - I loved them growing up - lunchbox, paper dolls, records - I had it.

I noticed I posted the same page from my JOY journal twice.

I assure you I am keeping up with it.

Here is a different page.

I will not bore you with every single page.

Lots more junk coming at you.

Duck now!

See y'all!
